History of Natchez

Premier Cultural Tourism Destination
Founded in 1716, Natchez offers a quality of life unlike any other in the deep south. We are a certified retirement community and a certified main street community. Nationally known for our historic preservation, we are a premier cultural tourism destination, hosting some 700,000 visitors a year. Natchez is the oldest city on the Mississippi River and recipient of the prestigious federal designation as a Preserve America Community.

Prepared to Provide for the Public
Natchez is synonymous for hospitality and consider our people to be among our finest resources. As much as we respect the past, we also look to the future and eagerly welcome new businesses, industries and residents. We offer a ready supply of workers, both skilled and laborers, and the necessary resources to provide local training as needed. In addition, Natchez extends a wide range of cultural opportunities for visitors, residents and businesses and we stand prepared to provide the public with helpful information at every turn.

Mayor Larry L. "Butch" Brown, along with the Natchez Board of Aldermen, invite you to consider Natchez as an ultimate destination to visit, to live, to start or relocate your business, or to retire
